Presentation Remotes: frequently asked questions
Laser or lamp: which should I buy?
Laser, in almost every installed application. A laser light source runs for around 20,000 to 30,000 hours with no consumable to replace, starts instantly, and holds its brightness far better over its life, which usually makes it cheaper to own than a lamp projector even where it costs more to buy.
How many lumens do I actually need?
It depends on the size of the picture and how much light is in the room, not on the room's size. Brightness is spread across the whole image, so the same projector looks dimmer on a bigger screen. As a guide on a standard matte white screen: a 100 inch picture needs roughly 750 lumens in a blacked-out room, around 1,900 in a normal lit meeting room, and about 2,800 with daylight from windows. At 150 inches those figures rise to roughly 1,700, 4,200 and 6,200. The room finder at the top of this page does the calculation for your exact size and light level.
How far from the screen does a projector need to be?
Throw distance is the throw ratio multiplied by the image width, not the diagonal. A 1.5:1 lens making a 120 inch 16:9 picture (2.66 m wide) needs about 4 m from the screen, while a 0.5:1 short-throw lens makes the same picture from about 1.3 m. Ultra-short-throw models sit within a few centimetres of the wall. Every product page here carries an interactive throw-distance guide for that specific model, and there is a full calculator at /tools/throw-distance.
What delivery and lead times apply to presentation remotes?
Standard UK delivery is free on orders of £99 or more including VAT, with next-day and timed-AM options available at checkout. Items showing as in UK stock are dispatched from within the UK, so no order crosses a customs border and there is no import duty or courier handling fee on arrival. For installation projects we can hold equipment and deliver to site to match your programme dates.
What warranty and support come with presentation remotes?
Warranty varies by model, and cover of up to 2 years is published on the products listed here, so check the specification on the product page for the exact term. The manufacturer warranty is honoured here in the UK, so if something fails you deal with us rather than an overseas seller in another time zone. Our own UK-based engineers install, commission and support what we sell, and can attend site when a system needs hands on it. Extended warranty and maintenance cover can be added to any order.
Can you install it as well as supply it, and do you accept purchase orders?
Yes to both. TopAV is the online arm of an AV integrator with 25 years of installation behind it, and installation can be added to most orders on the product page: mounting, cabling and containment, signal integration, commissioning against the agreed specification, and user training at handover. Our engineers are DBS-checked and safety-accredited, and we work in live schools, hospitals and offices with minimal disruption. We also accept purchase orders from approved education and public-sector accounts and invoice in pounds sterling with proper UK VAT invoices. Call 0808 501 2545 or email [email protected] to set up an account.
