What size projector screen do I need?
Size a projector screen from the furthest viewer, the same way as a flat-panel display: divide the distance from the screen to the back row by 6 for presentations (by 4 for detailed content, by 8 for video) to get the minimum image height. A hall whose back row is 10 m from the screen needs an image about 1.7 m high, which is a 120 to 130-inch 16:10 screen; a classroom with the back row at 6 m needs about 1 m of height, an 80-inch screen. Then check the projector can fill that size from where it can be mounted, which is what this calculator does.
How big is a 100 inch projector screen?
A 100-inch projector screen, measured on the diagonal, is 2.21 m wide by 1.25 m high at 16:9, 2.15 m wide by 1.35 m high at 16:10, and 2.03 m wide by 1.52 m high at 4:3. Screen sizes are always the diagonal of the image area, so the same number is a different shape at each aspect ratio; measure the wall against the width and height for the format you will actually show.
Which projector do I need for a 120 inch screen 3 m from the wall?
A 120-inch 16:10 image is 2.58 m wide, so a projector 3 m from the wall needs a throw ratio of about 1.16:1 (3 ÷ 2.58). That is the wide end of a standard zoom lens or a short throw model; a projector whose ratio starts at 1.35:1 would need 3.5 m and will not fit. How do I preview the projected image on my wall?
Open the wall preview below the matches, upload a photo of the wall or scan the QR code to take one with your phone, and include an A4 sheet fixed flat to the wall so the scale is set automatically. The chosen picture size is then drawn on the photo at real scale. The photo is processed in your browser and never stored; a photo relayed from your phone is deleted as soon as the page picks it up.
