TopAV buying advice
Is the ViewSonic IFP55G1 right for your classroom?
The panel with no computer in it, which is the point.
Shortlist this ViewBoard where the software and the data should live on the device a person brings, not on the screen. That suits shared rooms, visitor-facing spaces and estates where IT would rather manage one fleet of laptops than a second fleet of panels. If you want the display to whiteboard on its own, budget for a slot-in PC at the same time, because the panel does not do it unaided.
Reasons to shortlist it
- One USB-C cable carries video, touch and up to 65W of charge from a laptop, so a visitor presents and annotates without anything being installed on the panel.
- 40 touch points with a Windows source and 20 with an Android source, on an infrared Ultra Fine Touch layer.
- An OPS slot takes a Windows, Linux, EDLA or Chromebox slot-in PC, so the computing half can be replaced on its own refresh cycle while the panel stays on the wall.
- Three rear HDMI 2.0 inputs, one of them with ARC, so existing room sources keep working alongside a laptop.
- No onboard operating system means no vendor account, app store or panel firmware policy to manage; sensitive material stays on the connected device.
Check before you choose
- Audio is two 15W speakers. For a full classroom, or any room with background noise, plan a separate soundbar or ceiling speakers.
- With no connected device and no slot-in PC there is nothing on screen. If you need the display to whiteboard, cast or run apps standalone, the slot-in PC is not optional and must be quoted with it.
- Budget separately for the mount, installation, the slot-in PC and any camera. None of those is included with the display.
See the 55" on your wall, to scale
On a phone, point your camera at the wall and see the 55" there at its real size. On a computer, upload a photo of the wall (or scan the QR code to take one with your phone and it will appear here) and drag the display around it to scale.
Not sure 55" is the right size for the room? The screen size calculator shows how far a 55" display carries for presentations, touch work and video.
What to plan before installing the IFP55G1
01
Size & sightlines
Measure the longest viewing distance and allow space around the display for access and writing.
02
Mount & connections
Check wall construction, mounting height, power and data. ViewSonic lists a 400 x 200 mm VESA pattern.
03
Source & installation
Decide whether rooms will present from their own laptops over USB-C or from a slot-in PC, and confirm which operating system that PC should run. Tell us if you need mounting, cabling or a camera.
Display price is for the panel. Installation and optional equipment are quoted separately. Purchase-order terms are available to approved education customers.
Build a quote you can compare
Include these details in your project enquiry so the quote covers the room as well as the screen.
- Number of displays, site postcode and required date.
- Furthest viewing distance and available wall space.
- Wall type, fixed mount or adjustable trolley, and cable routes.
- Laptop model, teaching apps, and any camera or Windows PC needs.
Ask for separate equipment, delivery, installation and licence costs, with a total including VAT. Confirm warranty coverage and any registration requirements before placing the order.

What else the IFP55G1 needs
The price above is for the display on its own. A wall mount or trolley is a separate purchase, and installation is quoted per site. Add what you need here and it joins the same basket.

ViewSonic IFP55G1 questions answered
Who is the ViewSonic IFP55G1 best suited to?
Consider it for a small meeting room, a shared teaching space or a visitor-facing room where people present from their own laptop. It is the right choice when you want the software and the data on the connected device rather than on the panel. It is the wrong choice if you want the screen to work on its own out of the box.
Does the IFP55G1 have Android built in?
No. ViewSonic publishes no embedded operating system for this model, and its specification table has no RAM or storage row either. The operating system comes from a laptop over USB-C or from a slot-in PC in the OPS slot. An EDLA-certified slot-in PC is what adds licensed Google Play access.
How many touch points does the IFP55G1 support?
40 with a Windows source and 20 with an Android source, as listed in ViewSonic's specification table. The touch layer is infrared Ultra Fine Touch.
Can I connect a laptop with a single USB-C cable?
Yes. The USB-C port carries video, touch and data sharing and supplies up to 65W of power delivery, so most laptops charge from the same cable. Your laptop and cable must support the required functions; a laptop needing more than 65W will still want its own charger.
What slot-in PC should I choose for it?
Choose by the operating system your rooms already run. ViewSonic lists Windows, Linux, EDLA and Chromebox options for the OPS slot on this series. Pick EDLA if you want Google Play and managed Google accounts licensed on the panel, and Windows if staff expect a familiar desktop. Ask us to quote the panel and the slot-in PC as one line of work so the pair is specified together.
Is the audio good enough for a classroom?
Plan on adding to it. ViewSonic lists two 15W speakers on this model, which suits a quiet small room rather than a full class. For teaching spaces, quote a soundbar or ceiling speakers alongside the panel.
How bright is the IFP55G1?
ViewSonic lists 450 nits for this model, with an anti-glare surface. That suits a normally lit room. In a space with large unshaded windows, plan blinds or check the panel against the actual light levels before committing.
Should I choose the 55-inch or the 86-inch IFPG1?
Choose by viewing distance and the smallest text people need to read. Both are 4K, so the larger panel makes text bigger rather than sharper. The 55-inch suits close-up small-room work; compare the 86-inch IFP86G1 for a deep room or a lecture space, and check the wall and the mounting pattern before deciding.
Can TopAV quote for installation and school purchase orders?
Yes. Request a project quote for mounting, cabling, the slot-in PC and installation. Installation is quoted separately. Approved education customers can apply for purchase-order terms; eligibility and credit terms are subject to approval.
Is the advertised price a complete working room?
No. The displayed price is for the display. Request an itemised quote for mounting, installation, the slot-in PC, any camera and any software licences. Compare the total including VAT, delivery and all required equipment.
How does the ViewSonic IFP55G1 compare with a SMART Board or Clevertouch?
SMART builds its teaching workflow around SMART Notebook and Ink and Clevertouch around LYNX Whiteboard, while ViewSonic builds around myViewBoard, which this model cannot run on its own: it ships with no onboard operating system, so the software lives on the laptop you connect over its 65W USB-C port or on a slot-in PC in the OPS slot. Our comparison guides use the IFP51 series as ViewSonic's reference, and that series has a built-in Android system where this IFPG1 panel deliberately has none. Our SMART Board vs ViewSonic and three-brand school comparison guides cover software, accounts and installed cost in detail.
