Synology BC800Z 8MP Motorised Varifocal Bullet Network Camera

The BC800Z is the top of Synology's camera range and the one to compare against a high-end Hikvision bullet. A large 1/1.8-inch starlight sensor records 3840 x 2160 at 30 fps, and a motorised 4.38-9.33 mm varifocal lens lets the field of view be set remotely between 112.1 and 47.5 degrees horizontally, so commissioning and later re-framing are done from Surveillance Station rather than from a ladder.

Night vision is hybrid: white LEDs reach 31 m for full-colour footage and infrared reaches 38 m for covert monochrome. HDR and Synology's Smart Bitrate Control keep the 4K stream manageable on storage, and the camera runs edge analytics including licence plate recognition and smoke detection alongside the usual people and vehicle detection.

The housing is IP67, IP66 and IK10 rated in a 105 mm diameter by 272 mm bullet weighing 1.31 kg, and operates from -30 to 60 degrees C, or -30 to 55 degrees C with infrared enabled. Power is 802.3af PoE or a 12 V DC 2.5 A adapter, over a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port. Synology covers it for five years. A Surveillance Station device licence is required.
