TopAV buying advice
Is the SMART QX286-V2-P-5A right for your meeting room?
The largest QX Pro, for a boardroom where the far end of the table is a long way from the screen.
Shortlist the 86-inch QX Pro for a boardroom or larger meeting room that runs hybrid calls and wants the camera and audio built into the display rather than bolted around it. The panel arrives with a 4K ePTZ camera, an eight-microphone array and an integrated soundbar, so a room can be finished with a mount and a cable rather than a separate video bar. This is the biggest size in the series; the extra diagonal over the 75-inch model buys legible detail for the seats furthest from the screen, at the cost of 14kg more weight and a wall that has to take it.
Reasons to shortlist it
- HyPr Touch with Advanced IR tracks up to 50 touch points with Pen ID, pressure-sensitive ink and palm rejection, at 1 mm accuracy, a touch response under 4 ms and a frame rate of 300 Hz or better, so writing keeps up with the hand rather than lagging behind it.
- SMART lists a 4K, 8.28MP ePTZ camera with 10x digital zoom and a 120-degree field of view in the box, alongside an integrated soundbar of two 20W speakers with a 15W subwoofer and a linear eight-microphone array with echo cancellation and a visual mute indicator.
- Front and rear USB-C ports each carry video, touch and 65W of charge, with a 15W top port for a peripheral, four HDMI 2.1 inputs and a rear OPS slot rated for a 100W SMART PCM module, so a guest laptop and a room PC can both stay connected.
- SMART Meeting Pro ships with a room licence and ten personal licences, alongside SMART Product Drivers, SMART Ink, SMART Remote Management and SMART Control, and an on-screen dashboard reports room temperature, humidity, volatile organic compounds and PM2.5.
- We are a SMART Platinum partner, so warranty claims and replacements go through us rather than a queue.
Check before you choose
- 86 inches is the largest panel in the series and it weighs 70kg, so the wall or floor stand has to be rated for it and the room has to suit it. In a small huddle room the front row will be too close to read comfortably; check the nearest and furthest seats before ordering, because the 75-inch and 65-inch models exist for smaller rooms.
- Budget separately for the mount, installation and any Windows OPS module. The box holds the display, two styluses, two bar erasers, the camera with its mounting and cable accessories, a remote with batteries, the antennas, a power cable, a 5m USB A to B cable and a 1.8m 100W USB-C cable.
- Confirm with IT how the display will be managed before rollout: the installed Android build, account and app policy, and whether your network needs 802.1X credentials. The built-in environmental sensors are informational only and are not life safety rated, so do not plan to use them for compliance monitoring.
See the 86" on your wall, to scale
On a phone, point your camera at the wall and see the 86" there at its real size. On a computer, upload a photo of the wall (or scan the QR code to take one with your phone and it will appear here) and drag the display around it to scale.
Not sure 86" is the right size for the room? The screen size calculator shows how far a 86" display carries for presentations, touch work and video.
What to plan before installing the QX286-V2-P-5A
01
Size & sightlines
Measure both the longest viewing distance and the shortest. At 86 inches the far end of a boardroom table is well served, but anyone seated directly in front will be craning. Allow room either side of the display so someone can stand and write without blocking the camera.
02
Mount & connections
Check wall construction, mounting height, a mains socket and a data point. The panel weighs 70kg and ships at 86kg on a pallet, so confirm the wall or floor stand is rated for it and that the delivery route into the room can take a crated panel of that size. SMART lists a 800 x 600 mm (M8) VESA pattern.
03
Software & installation
Decide whether meetings run on the built-in iQ system, a room PC in the OPS slot or a guest laptop, and confirm SMART Meeting Pro licensing, account sign-in and conferencing software with your IT team. Tell us if you need mounting, cabling or an OPS PC module.
Display price is for the panel. Installation and optional equipment are quoted separately. Purchase-order terms are available to approved education customers.
Build a quote you can compare
Include these details in your project enquiry so the quote covers the room as well as the screen.
- Number of displays, site postcode and required date.
- Furthest viewing distance and available wall space.
- Wall type, fixed mount or adjustable trolley, and cable routes.
- Laptop model, teaching apps, and any camera or Windows PC needs.
Ask for separate equipment, delivery, installation and licence costs, with a total including VAT. Confirm warranty coverage and any registration requirements before placing the order.

SMART QX286-V2-P-5A questions answered
Who is the SMART Board QX286-V2 Pro best suited to?
Consider it for a boardroom or larger meeting room that runs hybrid calls and wants the camera, microphones and audio built into the display. It is the 86-inch size, the largest in the QX Pro series, so it earns its place where people sit a long way back; for a mid-size room the 75-inch model and for a huddle room the 65-inch are the better fit.
How does the 86-inch differ from the 75-inch QX Pro?
Only size and the figures that follow from it. Both panels share the same 4K UHD resolution, 490 cd/m2 brightness, 50-point HyPr Touch, camera, microphone array and soundbar. The 86-inch draws 122W typical against 105W and weighs 70kg against 56kg, and it uses a different mounting pattern, so a mount bought for one size will not carry across.
Does the QX Pro include a camera?
Yes. SMART's specification sheet lists a SMART Ultra HD Camera with its mounting and cable accessories among the included items, and the display's video specification is 4K, 8.28MP, ePTZ with 10x digital zoom and a 120-degree field of view. That is usually enough to avoid buying a separate video bar for the room.
Does it need a computer to work?
No. The iQ system is built into the display, with a digital whiteboard, web browser and screen sharing, so a meeting can start without anyone connecting a laptop. A laptop connects over USB-C or HDMI when you want to present from your own files, and a SMART PCM module can be fitted in the rear OPS slot for a permanent room PC.
Can I connect a laptop with a single USB-C cable?
Yes. The front USB-C port carries video, touch data and up to 65W of power delivery, and there is a second 65W USB-C port at the rear for a fixed machine. Your laptop and cable must support DisplayPort over USB-C, and a laptop needing more than 65W will still want its own charger.
How many people can write on it at once?
SMART lists up to 50 touch points, depending on the operating system in use, with pen, finger and eraser told apart at the same time. Two styluses with multi-colour select and two bar erasers are supplied, and on an 86-inch panel there is genuinely room for several people to work side by side.
What audio and microphone hardware is built in?
An integrated soundbar with two 20W speakers and a 15W subwoofer, plus a linear eight-microphone array with onboard acoustic echo cancellation and a visual mute status indicator, with a microphone mute button on the frame. A large boardroom with a long table may still want ceiling microphones for the seats furthest from the panel.
What do the environmental sensors do?
They feed an on-screen dashboard showing room temperature, humidity, volatile organic compounds and PM2.5, alongside proximity, ambient light and infrared sensing used by the display itself. SMART states these are not life safety rated sensors and provide general information only, so they are a comfort indicator rather than a compliance instrument.
How bright is the screen and what glass does it use?
SMART lists 490 cd/m2 for the QX Pro, behind optically bonded, anti-glare, anti-fingerprint, heat-tempered glass, with a 178-degree viewing angle. That is bright enough for a meeting room with windows, though direct sunlight on a panel this size is still worth designing out.
What power does it draw, and how heavy is it to deliver?
SMART lists 122W typical for the 86-inch size and under 0.5W in standby, on a 100V to 240V supply. It weighs 70kg and 86kg crated on its pallet, so plan a booked delivery slot, a clear route into the room and at least two people, and tell us about lifts, stairs or narrow doorways when you ask for a quote.
