Description

The RM-IP500 is Sony's full-function control panel for its remote and PTZ cameras. It addresses up to 100 cameras over VISCA over IP or seven over VISCA RS-422, and puts the exposure, colour and detail controls that normally live in a menu onto physical buttons and knobs.

That is the practical difference from a simple joystick panel. Iris, gain, shutter, master black, detail level, knee point, AE level and R/B gain and black are all directly adjustable with the values shown on the panel display, so a camera can be matched to the others in the middle of a show rather than between them. Three separate dials handle pan/tilt, zoom and focus speed, and zoom can be driven from either the seesaw lever or the joystick ring.

There are six assignable buttons, GPI tally input and contact output on a 15-pin D-sub, and RJ-45 for both LAN and VISCA RS-422. It runs on 12 V DC at up to 7.2 W, measures 306 x 159.3 x 224.1 mm and weighs about 2.4 kg, with a Kensington lock slot. Available functions depend on the camera being controlled.
