TopAV buying advice

Is the iiyama LH3241S-B2 right for your reception?

For a small, close-range screen that has to stay on and be fed from elsewhere.

Shortlist the LH3241S-B2 for a till point, a counter, a lift lobby, a menu position above a serving hatch or a small waiting area, where people are within a few metres of the screen and a 43-inch panel would be too much. It is rated for continuous unattended running rather than short bursts, and at 5.1kg in a 725.5 x 422 x 54mm chassis it goes up on a light bracket or a small pole. Nothing runs on the display itself, so decide early what will feed it.

Reasons to shortlist it

  • Rated by iiyama for 24/7 non-stop operation with a fanless design and a 50,000 hour MTBF figure, which is the specification that separates a commercial signage panel from a consumer television asked to do the same job.
  • An IPS panel at 1920 x 1080 with 350 cd/m2 of brightness, 1200:1 static contrast and an 8ms grey-to-grey response, so the image holds up for people reading it from an angle at a counter rather than square on.
  • It is listed for landscape or portrait mounting, so the same panel can be a wide menu strip above a hatch or a vertical poster beside a door without a different model being ordered.
  • At 5.1kg without its box, 725.5 x 422 x 54mm and 39W typical, it is the lightest and cheapest to run of this group, which matters when the same screen is repeated across dozens of positions.
  • Three HDMI inputs, two 10W speakers and an RCA line output cover the sources and the sound, and RS-232C, RJ45 network and IR control inputs let the screen be powered and switched remotely instead of by hand.

Check before you choose

  • Media playback from the display is not supported in pivot. If the screen hangs in portrait, the content has to arrive over HDMI from a player or a PC, so a portrait install needs that hardware even though a landscape one might not.
  • 350 cd/m2 is an indoor figure. It works in a lit shop floor, a foyer or a canteen, but not in a window or a glazed frontage where daylight lands on the glass; that position needs a high-brightness display instead.
  • There is no operating system on this display, so nothing on it stores content, holds a schedule or talks to a signage service. A player, a PC or a signage box has to generate the content, and that hardware and any subscription are a separate line on the quote.

What to plan before installing the LH3241S-B2

01

Size & sightlines

32 inches is a close-range size. Measure the furthest reading point and the smallest text in your content, and be honest about it: if people read this from more than a few metres, step up to the 43-inch or 50-inch models in the same range rather than shrinking the type.

02

Mount & orientation

Decide landscape or portrait now, because it changes whether the display can play its own media. Plan for a 725.5 x 422 x 54mm chassis at 5.1kg; the mounting pattern is in the specification table. Run an RJ45 cable if the screen will be managed over the network, and allow for the RCA audio output if the sound leaves the panel. iiyama lists a 200 x 200 mm VESA pattern.

03

Content & source

Choose what generates the content: a signage player, a small PC or a switcher feeding one of the three HDMI inputs. Cable management is in the box along with a remote control. Tell us if you want the player, the bracket or the installation quoted alongside the screen.

Display price is for the panel. Installation and optional equipment are quoted separately. Purchase-order terms are available to approved education customers.

Build a quote you can compare

Include these details in your project enquiry so the quote covers the room as well as the screen.

  • Number of displays, site postcode and required date.
  • Furthest viewing distance and available wall space.
  • Wall type, fixed mount or adjustable trolley, and cable routes.
  • Laptop model, teaching apps, and any camera or Windows PC needs.

Ask for separate equipment, delivery, installation and licence costs, with a total including VAT. Confirm warranty coverage and any registration requirements before placing the order.

iiyama LH3241S-B2 questions answered

Who is the iiyama ProLite LH3241S-B2 best suited to?

Consider it for a till point, a counter, a lift lobby, a small menu position or a compact waiting area, where people stand within a few metres of the screen. At 32 inches it is the smallest panel in this signage range, and it is aimed at repeated low-cost positions rather than a headline display in a foyer.

Does the LH3241S-B2 need a media player or a PC?

For a portrait install, yes. iiyama's specification for this model lists no integrated software, so nothing on the display schedules content or connects to a signage service, and the media playback it does have is not supported in pivot. In landscape you can show a file from a USB stick, but anything that has to change on a timetable or be managed centrally needs a player, a PC or a signage box on one of the HDMI inputs.

Can it be mounted in portrait?

Yes. iiyama lists this model for landscape or portrait orientation. The one thing to know is that media playback is not supported in pivot, so a vertical screen has to be fed over HDMI. Check the mounting pattern in the specification table against your bracket, since it is the smaller of the two patterns used across this range.

Can it run all day, every day?

Yes. iiyama rates this model for 24/7 maximum non-stop operating time, with a fanless design and a 50,000 hour MTBF figure. That is the specification to check when you are comparing it against a consumer television, which is neither built nor covered for that pattern of use. It is also specified for a 0 to 40 degrees C operating range.

Where can a 350 cd/m2 screen go?

Indoors, away from direct sun. 350 cd/m2 is comfortable on a lit shop floor, in an office, a corridor or a canteen. It is not enough for a shop window or a glazed atrium where daylight falls on the glass, which is what the high-brightness tier at around 800 cd/m2 exists for. Measure the light at the real position if you are unsure.

How is the display controlled remotely?

It has RS-232C, an RJ45 network connection and an IR input for monitor control, so power, source and volume can be driven from a control system or over the network. That matters most when the screens are out of reach or there are a lot of them. A remote control is supplied in the box for local adjustment.

How many sources can it take?

Three HDMI inputs, which is more than most sites need at this size and means a player, a laptop plate and a spare can stay connected without a switcher. Audio is handled by two 10W speakers or an RCA left and right line output to an amplifier or a ceiling system.

How much power does it use and how heavy is it?

39W typical, 0.5W in standby and 0.3W switched off, in a 725.5 x 422 x 54mm chassis weighing 5.1kg without its box. It is a one-person lift and the lightest load on a bracket in this range, which is worth knowing on plasterboard or on a slim pole mount.

Is the housing metal?

No. iiyama lists a plastic housing for this model, where the 43-inch LH4341UHS-B2 and the 55-inch LH5541UHS-B2 in the same range are metal. For a normal wall position that makes no practical difference, but in a knock-prone spot such as a corridor at trolley height, the metal-housed models are the sturdier choice.

Should I choose the 32-inch LH3241S-B2 or the 43-inch LH4341UHS-B2?

Choose by reading distance first. This one is Full HD at 350 cd/m2 and 39W, which is right for a counter or a lift lobby. The LH4341UHS-B2 is 4K at 3840 x 2160 and 500 cd/m2 in a metal housing, drawing 107W, which suits a brighter position, denser content such as a full menu board, or a screen people read from further back. Both are rated 24/7, both mount landscape or portrait, and both need an external source for anything scheduled.
