An 86-inch 4K commercial display rated for 24/7 operation, with 500 nits of brightness, Android 14 on 8GB of RAM, a slot-in PC bay and one USB-C input carrying video, data and 65W of charge.

TopAV buying advice

Is the ViewSonic CDE8631-1C right for your boardroom?

For a boardroom or a public space where the screen has to work from the far wall.

Shortlist this for a large boardroom, a canteen or an entrance hall where people read the screen from well back. It presents from one USB-C cable and runs its own scheduled content the rest of the time. At 86 inches the structural check and the delivery route are part of the specification, not an afterthought.

Reasons to shortlist it

  • 500 nits of brightness with an anti-glare coating, so an entrance hall or a glazed boardroom does not wash the content out.
  • Rated for 24/7 operation, so an 86-inch screen in a public space can run all day and all night rather than being switched off each evening.
  • Android 14 with 8GB of RAM and 32GB of storage on board, plus a slot-in PC bay, so signage runs from the display now and a Windows engine can be added later without replacing the panel.
  • Three HDMI 2.1 inputs and one USB-C carrying video, data and 65W of charge, so a room PC, a codec and a guest laptop can all stay connected, with two 16W speakers for playback.
  • 86 inches spreads the same 3840x2160 pixels over enough area for a long boardroom or an open space; the gain over 75 inches is readable text from further back, not more detail.

Check before you choose

  • This is not a touch display. There is no touch layer, no pen and no annotation, so nobody can write on the glass. An interactive panel is the product for that.
  • At 86 inches the wall structure and the handling decide the job. Confirm the fixing goes into structure or proper backing, plan a multi-person lift, and check doorways, lifts and turns on the route in.
  • Decide whether the built-in Android is enough or you need a player. It runs USB playback and common signage apps; a corporate content system or a Windows application needs the slot-in PC bay filled or an external player, and neither is included.

See the 86" on your wall, to scale

On a phone, point your camera at the wall and see the 86" there at its real size. On a computer, upload a photo of the wall (or scan the QR code to take one with your phone and it will appear here) and drag the display around it to scale.

Not sure 86" is the right size for the room? The screen size calculator shows how far a 86" display carries for presentations, touch work and video.

What to plan before installing the CDE8631-1C

01

Size and sightlines

Measure the longest viewing distance and the smallest text people must read, then check the wall is wide enough for the panel plus clearance around it.

02

Mount and power

Confirm the wall construction and the fixing method, set the mounting height for seated and standing viewers, and plan a power socket and a network drop behind the screen. ViewSonic lists a 600 x 400 mm VESA pattern.

03

Content and installation

Decide whether the built-in Android, a slot-in PC or a room source drives the screen, and tell us if you need mounting, cabling, delivery access and installation quoted with it.

Display price is for the panel. Installation and optional equipment are quoted separately. Purchase-order terms are available to approved education customers.

Build a quote you can compare

Include these details in your project enquiry so the quote covers the room as well as the screen.

  • Number of displays, site postcode and required date.
  • Furthest viewing distance and available wall space.
  • Wall type, fixed mount or adjustable trolley, and cable routes.
  • Laptop model, teaching apps, and any camera or Windows PC needs.

Ask for separate equipment, delivery, installation and licence costs, with a total including VAT. Confirm warranty coverage and any registration requirements before placing the order.

Specifications are ViewSonic's published figures. Checked on 13 September 2026. The buying advice is our own, from specifying and installing equipment like this in UK classrooms and meeting rooms.

ViewSonic CDE8631-1C questions answered

Is the ViewSonic CDE8631-1C a touch screen?

No. It is a non-touch commercial display. ViewSonic's specification lists no touch layer, no touch points and no pen, so it cannot be annotated. An interactive panel is the right product if people need to write on screen.

Who is the ViewSonic CDE8631-1C best suited to?

Consider it for a large boardroom, a canteen, a reception hall or another open space where viewers stand or sit well back from the wall. It also suits a room that needs one screen to present in meetings and carry signage the rest of the day.

Can it be left switched on continuously?

Yes. ViewSonic rates it for 24/7 operation, so it is built to run unattended rather than for office hours only. Set the content schedule and confirm power arrangements at installation.

Does it need a separate media player or PC?

Not for straightforward signage. Android 14 with 8GB of RAM and 32GB of storage runs on the display and plays media from USB, failing over to another input if the primary source drops. A corporate content system or a Windows application needs the slot-in PC bay filled or an external player added.

What is the slot-in PC bay for?

It takes a ViewSonic slot-in computer so a Windows or Chrome session runs inside the display rather than in a separate box. The bay is empty as supplied and the PC is quoted separately. Fitting one reduces the USB-C port to 15W of charging.

What should I check before ordering an 86-inch display?

Check three things: that the wall can carry the panel, with a fixing into structure or into timber or steel backing rather than plasterboard alone; that the route into the room takes a crate this size, including doorways, lifts and turns; and that the mounting height suits both seated and standing viewers.

Can I connect a laptop with a single USB-C cable?

Yes. The USB-C input carries video, data and up to 65W of charge over one cable. With a slot-in PC fitted the port supplies 15W instead, so a visitor's laptop may then need its own charger.

Can it be mounted in portrait?

Yes. ViewSonic lists landscape and portrait, and a portrait 86-inch panel makes an effective entrance display. At this size settle the orientation with the mount before installation, because it changes both the load path and the cable route.

Should I choose the 86-inch CDE8631-1C or the 75-inch CDE7531-1C?

Choose by viewing distance and the smallest text people must read. ViewSonic lists both at 3840x2160, 500 nits, 24/7 operation, 8GB of RAM and one 65W USB-C input, and both have a slot-in PC bay, so the 86-inch model gives more area and no extra pixels. If the wall, the lift or the route in is awkward, the 75-inch model is the easier installation.

Is the advertised price a complete installed package?

No. The price is for the display. Ask for an itemised quote covering the mount, fixings, cabling, any slot-in PC, delivery access and installation, and compare the total including VAT.
