Description
The Sony BRAVIA Projector 8 (VPL-XW6100ES) is a native 4K home cinema projector built around three 0.61-inch SXRD panels and a laser light source rated at 2,700 lumens. Native 4K here means 3,840 x 2,160 real mirrors per panel - there is no pixel shifting involved - so fine detail and small text hold together at the screen sizes this class of projector is bought for.
Picture processing is handled by Sony's XR Processor for projector, the same cognitive-processing family used in its BRAVIA televisions. In practice that means XR Dynamic Tone Mapping analysing peak brightness frame by frame rather than applying one fixed HDR curve, XR Deep Black driving the laser down in dark scenes, XR Triluminos Pro for wide-gamut colour and XR Clear Image for upscaling and noise reduction. HDR10 and HLG are both accepted. For gaming, the two HDMI 2.1 inputs support 4K at 120fps with a 12 ms input lag and Auto Low Latency Mode.
Optics are Sony's Advanced Crisp-Focused (ACF) lens, a powered design with five position presets so different aspect ratios can be recalled without re-aligning by hand. The lens is powered, with a 2.1x zoom, giving a 1.35-2.84:1 throw ratio and vertical +/- 85% and horizontal +/- 36% of lens shift, so the projector can be ceiling-mounted well off the screen centre line and still square up optically. Sony lists the VPL-XW6100ES in black and white finishes; this is the black version. Two HDMI inputs, LAN, RS-232C, IR in and a 12 V trigger cover integration with Control4, Crestron, Savant and AMX systems.
