Description
The Sony VPL-FHZ80 is a 3LCD laser installation projector rated at 6,000 lumens of both white and colour light output at WUXGA (1920 x 1200). Because the colour figure matches the white figure, coloured detail - charts, logos, brand colours, coloured text - stays as bright as the white parts of the image instead of dulling off, which is the usual giveaway of a cheaper single-chip design.
The laser light source is rated for 20,000 hours in Standard mode and 30,000 hours in Middle mode before output halves, so there are no lamps to schedule, budget for or climb up to change. Sony's sealed optical path and filter arrangement keep dust off the panels, which is what actually kills long-term brightness in a real building. Powered zoom, focus and lens shift (+70% to -5% vertical, +/- 32% horizontal) mean the unit can be hung where the structure allows and aligned afterwards from the remote.
Connectivity is aimed at permanent installation rather than a laptop on a trolley: HDMI, DVI-D, analogue RGB, composite BNC, plus HDBaseT for video, audio, LAN and control down a single Cat cable, and RS-232C for a control system. The standard lens gives a 1.39:1 to 2.23:1 throw and the projector accepts Sony's VPLL-3003, VPLL-3007, VPLL-Z3010, VPLL-Z3024 and VPLL-Z3032 optional lenses for anything shorter or longer.
