Description

The ATEN KE8952R is the receiver half of ATEN's KVM over IP extender family, carrying video, keyboard, mouse, audio and serial data from a source computer to an operator position across ordinary Gigabit Ethernet rather than a dedicated cable run. Because the link is IP-based, distance stops being a limit: the receiver can sit in a control room, a production floor office or a separate building, and the machine it works with stays locked away in a rack.

Video is handled at 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz (4:2:0), 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz (4:4:4) with switching latency quoted at < 5ms. The console side presents 2 x USB Type A Female (White), 1 x HDMI Female (Black), 1 x Mini Stereo Jack (Green), 1 x Mini Stereo Jack (Pink). Networking is via 1 x RJ-45 (Black PoE), 1 x SFP Slot, so a fibre module can replace copper where the run is long or electrically noisy. The unit accepts Power over Ethernet, which removes the local power supply from the equation at awkward endpoint locations.

Units in this range interoperate as a point-to-point pair or as part of a larger matrix managed by ATEN's CCKM control centre software, so a two-desk installation can grow without replacing the endpoints. The chassis is metal. ATEN rates it for continuous operation between 0-50°C. ATEN covers the product with a three-year warranty. This item is available to order from TopAV.

Key features

Video to 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz (4:2:0)

ATEN specifies 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz (4:2:0), 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz (4:4:4) for this unit, with switching latency of < 5ms.

Connections

2 x USB Type A Female (White), 1 x HDMI Female (Black), 1 x Mini Stereo Jack (Green), 1 x Mini Stereo Jack (Pink).

Copper or fibre

Network side is 1 x RJ-45 (Black PoE); 1 x SFP Slot, so the same endpoint can run on structured cabling or on fibre where the distance or the electrical environment demands it.

Grows into a matrix

Point-to-point today, part of a managed KVM over IP matrix tomorrow: the same units are addressed by ATEN CCKM control centre software without being replaced.
