TopAV buying advice

Is the iiyama LH5581UHSG-1AG right for your reception?

A signage screen that sits flat to the wall and makes no noise doing it.

Shortlist the LH5581UHSG-1AG for a reception, a corridor, a retail floor, a canteen, a showroom or a meeting room wall where the screen has to look built in rather than bolted on. The chassis is 46mm deep and fanless, so it sits close to the wall and adds nothing to the room's noise floor, which matters in a quiet foyer or a room with a microphone in it. The VA panel is quoted at 5000:1 static contrast at 500 cd/m2 behind anti-glare coated glass, an indoor brightness for a lit interior rather than a sunlit window. Android 14 with iiSignage2 runs the content on the display itself, and a wall mounting kit is supplied.

Reasons to shortlist it

  • The chassis is 46mm deep and fanless in a metal housing, so it sits close to the wall, has no moving parts to fail or clog, and puts no fan noise into a quiet reception or a room being recorded. A wall mounting kit matched to the display is supplied in the box, so the screen arrives ready to hang.
  • The VA panel quotes 5000:1 static contrast at 500 cd/m2 with a 6.5ms response behind anti-glare coated glass. That contrast is high for a signage panel and it is what keeps white type on a dark background, product photography and video legible under office and retail lighting rather than looking washed and grey.
  • Android 14 runs on the display on an MTK9679 quad-core A73 processor with G52 MC1 graphics, 4GB of memory and 32GB of storage, with iiSignage2 for content management, iiControl for device management, iiShare and EShare for wireless presentation, TeamViewer for remote support, a PDF and media player, iiBrowser and a file manager. The display is the player, so nothing has to be boxed in behind it.
  • A USB-C 3.2 input carries DisplayPort alternate mode video plus 15W of power delivery at 5V and 3A, alongside two HDMI 2.0 inputs each specified to 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz, so a laptop can connect on one cable and two fixed sources can stay plugged in at the same time.
  • It is rated for 24/7 non-stop operation with a 50,000 hour MTBF figure and an anti image retention function over a 0 to 40C operating range, and it can be controlled over RS-232c, gigabit LAN or infrared. It draws 104W typical, 0.5W in standby and 0.3W off, and carries energy class G.

Check before you choose

  • The USB-C port delivers 15W at 5V and 3A. That is enough to keep a phone, a dongle or a small streaming stick alive, and nowhere near enough to charge a working laptop while it drives the screen, so the laptop still needs its own supply. If one-cable docking with real charging is what you are buying, this is not the model to specify.
  • The control ports use small non-standard connectors: RS-232c on a 2.5mm sub-mini jack and infrared on a 3.5mm stereo mini jack. A conventional DB9 serial lead will not plug into it, so order the correct adapter cable with the display rather than discovering it on commissioning day when the control system will not talk to the screen.
  • At 500 cd/m2 this is an indoor signage brightness. It is right for a reception, a corridor, a retail floor or a canteen under artificial light, but a shop window or a glazed frontage with daylight falling on the screen needs the high-brightness tier instead. Measure the light at the actual position before committing to it.

See the 55" on your wall, to scale

On a phone, point your camera at the wall and see the 55" there at its real size. On a computer, upload a photo of the wall (or scan the QR code to take one with your phone and it will appear here) and drag the display around it to scale.

What to plan before installing the LH5581UHSG-1AG

01

Wall, depth and access

The chassis is 1248.4 x 719.2 x 46mm and weighs 18.4kg, 23.2kg boxed, so it is a two-person lift on to a wall confirmed to carry the load on the mounting pattern shown in the specification table. The wall mounting kit is supplied. The 46mm depth only stays shallow if the cables behind it are planned: allow for connector depth and bends, or recess a back box so the screen still sits flat.

02

Sources and control

Decide which sources are permanent and which are visitor connections. Two HDMI 2.0 inputs each carry 3840 x 2160 at 60Hz for fixed players and room PCs, and the USB-C input takes a laptop on one cable with DisplayPort alternate mode. If the display joins a control system, order the RS-232c adapter for its 2.5mm sub-mini jack, or plan to control it over the gigabit LAN port instead. iiyama lists a 300 x 400 mm VESA pattern.

03

Content and commissioning

Decide whether the schedule runs on the built-in Android 14 system with iiSignage2 and iiControl, or from an external player over HDMI, and get network access and remote management signed off with your IT team. Where the same image stays on screen for long periods, turn on the anti image retention function at commissioning. Tell us if you want the mounting, the cabling or the installation quoted alongside the display.

Display price is for the panel. Installation and optional equipment are quoted separately. Purchase-order terms are available to approved education customers.

Build a quote you can compare

Include these details in your project enquiry so the quote covers the room as well as the screen.

  • Number of displays, site postcode and required date.
  • Furthest viewing distance and available wall space.
  • Wall type, fixed mount or adjustable trolley, and cable routes.
  • Laptop model, teaching apps, and any camera or Windows PC needs.

Ask for separate equipment, delivery, installation and licence costs, with a total including VAT. Confirm warranty coverage and any registration requirements before placing the order.

iiyama LH5581UHSG-1AG questions answered

Who is the iiyama ProLite LH5581UHSG-1AG best suited to?

Consider it for a reception or lobby, a corridor or wayfinding position, a retail floor or showroom, a canteen, a waiting area or a meeting room wall. It suits sites where the screen should look part of the building rather than an add-on, and where it will run unattended through the day on content managed from somewhere else.

How slim is it really, and does the depth matter?

The chassis is 46mm deep in a metal housing and it is fanless. The depth matters for how the screen reads on the wall and for corridors and circulation routes where a protruding display is a hazard. The fanless part matters more than people expect: no fan means no noise in a quiet reception and no filter or vent to clog in a dusty retail or catering space.

Does it need a separate media player?

No. Android 14 runs on the display on an MTK9679 quad-core A73 processor with G52 MC1 graphics, 4GB of memory and 32GB of storage, with iiSignage2 for content management, iiControl for device management, iiShare and EShare for wireless presentation, TeamViewer for remote support, a PDF and media player, iiBrowser and a file manager. Two HDMI 2.0 inputs and the USB-C input are there if you would rather drive it from an external player or a room PC.

Can a laptop connect with one cable, and will it charge?

A laptop connects on one cable: the USB-C 3.2 input carries video over DisplayPort alternate mode. It will not charge a working laptop, though. The port delivers 15W at 5V and 3A, which suits a phone or a small stick but not a machine that wants sixty watts or more, so the laptop keeps its own supply. If proper one-cable docking is the requirement, say so and we will point you at a model built for it.

How bright is it and where can it go?

It is rated 500 cd/m2, an indoor signage brightness. That covers a reception, a corridor, a retail floor, a canteen, a showroom or a meeting room under artificial light. It is not a shop-window product: where daylight falls directly on the screen you need the high-brightness tier. The anti-glare coated glass breaks up reflections from overhead fittings but cannot add brightness.

Can it be left running around the clock?

Yes. iiyama rates the maximum non-stop operating time at 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with a 50,000 hour MTBF figure and a 0 to 40C operating range. That duty cycle is the practical difference between a signage display and a television used as one. Typical draw is 104W, standby 0.5W and off 0.3W, and it carries energy class G.

What about burn-in from a logo or a fixed layout?

It has an anti image retention function, which is worth turning on at commissioning on any screen that shows a static logo, a fixed header or an unchanging menu layout for hours at a time. It is not a substitute for varying the content: where you can, move fixed elements or refresh the layout periodically as well.

How do I control it from a room system or a rack?

Over RS-232c, over the gigabit LAN port, or by infrared. Check the connectors before you order the cables: the RS-232c port is a 2.5mm sub-mini jack rather than a DB9, and the infrared input is a 3.5mm stereo mini jack, so both need the right adapter lead. A remote control is supplied for local use.

Can it be mounted portrait?

Yes. iiyama lists both landscape and portrait orientation for this model, so it can be turned on its end for a tall wayfinding or menu column. The mounting kit supplied in the box matches the pattern shown in the specification table, and the bracket you use must be rated for the 18.4kg chassis in whichever orientation you choose.

Should I choose the 55-inch LH5581UHSG-1AG or the 65-inch LH6581UHSG-1AG?

They are the same display in two sizes: identical panel technology, 4K UHD resolution, 500 cd/m2 brightness, 5000:1 contrast, 6.5ms response, Android 14 software stack, processor, memory, storage, WiFi, audio, inputs, control ports, 24/7 duty cycle, metal fanless housing, 50,000 hour MTBF, energy class and 46mm depth. Choose on viewing distance and wall space. This one is 1248.4 x 719.2mm at 18.4kg and 104W typical; the 65-inch is 1467.7 x 842.4mm at 26.3kg and 118W, and it uses a different mounting pattern, so check the bracket against the specification table for whichever size you pick.
